Euclid's Proof of the Pythagorean Theorem
The design for this enchanting visual proof of the Pythagorean Theorem is taken from "Beautiful Geometry" by Eli Maor and Eugen Jost. They showed a still image of the proof for various possible triangles. I turned this into a NodeBox animation - just for fun.
Euclid showed that the blue and orange areas on top and bottom are always equal. Since blue + orange = (blue + orange), blue edge squared + orange edge squared = (blue + orange) hypotenuse squared.
Code, screenshot and movie attached. It's pretty simple: just a matter of rotating and resizing a few rectangles. I had to refresh my memory of high school trigonometry to calculate the sizes.
Enjoy!
