ALERT! Nodebox cannot export movies under Catalina
Frederik,
It appears that NodeBox can no longer export movies under Catalina (10.15.4). At least I can't.
I upgraded to Catalina a few days ago. Before the upgrade everything was fine. Now, when I attempt to export a movie, the movie runs through the initial frames and then closes without an error. It does not perform the second pass where frames are bundled into an MP4. I tried other movie formats, tried restarting, tried using your simple rotating rect example from an earlier forum thread - no luck.
Can anyone else out there on Catalina please verify that they are experiencing the same thing?
HELLLLP! I am hosed without the ability to export movies.
John

Hi John,
Yikes! tested on 10.15.4 and yes MP4 does not work.
I hope this helps, export as an image sequence, then use photoshop or your choice of video editing tool to make the movie.
I don't use the MP4 video export from NodeBox because I find the quality to be poor compared to exporting PNGs

Hi D,
(Is it Dexter?)
Thanks for the confirmation and suggestion. Yes, I verified that image sequence export still works. It's a definite workaround but would add extra steps to my workflow - which is a pain because I tend to iterate extensively when working on movies.
Why did you send the java link? Are you suggesting that we might need to backport to an earlier java release? (Not sure I would want to do that even it worked.)
A similar problem came up a few years ago and the NodeBox team was able to fix it then and release an updated version of NodeBox. The problem might be that NodeBox needs to use a newer version of FFMPEG. Or it might be some security thing that requires some new certificate. Or maybe a Java thing. I am hoping that Frederik will know (if he's still there).
If you do learn anything more please advise. And thanks again for your comments.
John

I have just posted my first NodeBox movie generated under Catalina. In my post I provide a list of tips for using the Export Range option:

So while there is a workaround, I still think it's urgent to fix this bug (but have not yet heard from Frederik).
I also heard from a fellow NodeBox user that OSC nodes may not work under Catalina. I am not into sound conversion. Can someone confirm?
