Opening NodeBox 2 files in NodeBox 3....
Hello everybody,
Very excited to get started with NodeBox 3, it looks like it
provides several new dimensions to explore.
Couple of questions:
Will NB3 open NB2 files?
Can I run both NB2 and NB3 on the same machine? (MacBook)
I've been looking around a bit and the documentation for NB 3 looks great. Big thanks to everyone who put that together.
peace

I'm able to succesfully run NB2 & NB3 at the same time on my Mac. I tried, but was unable to load NB2 files on NB3. It seems like some functionality has been moved, and the way Nodes interact is a bit different now.
I'm really enjoying it though. I'm going to rework some of my NB2 projects in NB3 and see where I can take them next.

Hi,
in short: you can't open NB2 files in NB3 but you can run both versions on the same machine.
NB3 has a lot of modifications compared to NB2. A significant change is that the ' everything is geometry' principle didn't pass the test anymore and was opened up to a variety of different port types resulting in a file which is only readable in NB3. Other things like copystamping, expression language,.. also went overboard.
You should be able to reconstruct the file but it might be interesting to read some documentation first to see how NB3 works.
regards
lieven

Also: be aware that NodeBox 2 is no longer actively developed or supported. All of our activity is going into NodeBox 3.
If there are features that you miss from NodeBox 2, please let us know!

Thanks for the quick reply gentlemen.
I kind of thought that would be the case, as NB3 looks like quite a different beast.
I will dive into NB3 when I have some time later next month, really looking forward to it and I may have some more questions for you over on the NB3 forum.
peace

The expression toggle of Nodebox 2 was a pretty nice feature. It gave you an easy way of working with numbers, without the need of using too many nodes.

Expression support will be added to NodeBox 3 in the future.
