Gradient Example: Brewer Balloons
I made a little poster to demonstrate the power of my new gradient nodes.
I show a bunch of balloons for each of the three ColorBrewer categories: Divergent, Sequential, and Qualitative. Each bunch is based on seven base colors and has one balloon for each palette in that category (9 for Divergent, 18 for Sequential, and 8 for Qualitative).
The triangular tie of each balloon shows the 7 colors in that palette. The string transitions through those same 7 colors. Each balloon is a gradient using at least 100 colors; I use a linear gradient at a 120 degree angle for Divergent, a radial gradient with an offset center for Sequential, and 90 degree linear gradient at higher resolution for Qualitative. Each balloon is numbered using a color complementary to one of the 7 colors in that balloon.
The whole thing is set against a blue sky linear gradient.
The colors are mostly translucent, so Nodebox has to huff and puff to assemble the final image. It took about 45 seconds to render the whole thing.
I then used my scale_true node to create a high res (4320 x 7680) PNG.
For more about the ColorBrewer system and my color_brewer node, see: http://support.nodebox.net/discussions/show-your-work/659-color-bre...
In spite of the complexity and attention to detail in this image, I was able to create and polish the whole thing in a few hours. Comments and questions welcome.
