Fellow Nodeboxers,

NodeBox was created for generative artists and over the years many of us have made some great art. Some Nodebox artists have taken the plunge into the world of NFTs (Non Fungible Tokens) and started to sell their art. Once you have your art on the blockchain, it can be shown in a variety of ways including 3D immersive experiences.

I would like to put together a show of NodeBox NFT art to raise awareness. So I am looking for any of you who have minted at least one work made in NodeBox. So far I have found three such artists (including myself). You can see our work here:

https://foundation.app/@jcartan
https://foundation.app/@seohyo
https://foundation.app/@procedural_disarray

The free Cyber site can host 3D virtual shows of NFTs for free. Check it out here: https://oncyber.io

ARE THERE ANY MORE OF YOU OUT THERE?

If you have minted any Nodebox art pieces please reply ASAP so I can get in touch with you. I'd like to get this show together soon. The more artists we have the better our show will be.

And for those of you who are new to NFTs, please reply with any questions or comments you may have. Once we put the show online it would be great if some people from this forum could visit and support us!

Stay tuned. I will answer questions and post updates on this thread.

Hi John, I've just minted my first NFT made with Nodebox last week. I plan to do more.

    Floris,

This is great news! I found your work at

    https://www.hicetnunc.xyz/florisdejonge/creations

I was thinking of maybe putting up a Cyber gallery in about a week or so. Do you think you'll have anything else minted by then?

I am excited that there will be at least one de Jonge in our exhibit!

Any other Nodebox NFT artists out there?

Hi John. Yes, that is indeed the correct link. I'll mint some more this weekend. Would be great to be part of virtual Nodebox NFT exhibition. Thanks for putting this together.

I am very excited to announce that our international exhibition of NodeBox NFT artists is now online! You can experience it here:

    https://oncyber.io/nodebox_artists

I encourage everyone lurking in the forum to check this out. And PLEASE leave some comments here by replying to this thread.

If any of you wish to support our Nodebox artists and promote this very cool immersive gallery, please like and retweet my official announcement tweet here:

    https://twitter.com/jcartan/status/1451068380744597513

And if you REALLY want to support our artists, their Nodebox art is available for purchase on the Foundation and HEN galleries (links in previous comments). :)

If we get enough of a reaction to this, I'd like to mount an even larger exhibit with even more NodeBox NFT artists, maybe next year. This exhibition is a watershed moment: NodeBox is now officially alive and well on the blockchain and in the metaverse!

Thanks, Franklin! It's heartening to see there are still some NodeBoxers watching the forum. Without comments like yours I have no way of knowing who's out there. (That is a hint to anyone else reading this thread: please raise your hand and just say hi.)

As for your question, do you mean gridism as in the virtual world art genre?

    https://medium.com/@kgpaints/the-users-guide-to-gridism-7d7df0511581

Or do you mean gridism as in the use of grids for layout (or even more specifically as the CSS framework)?

    https://cobyism.com/gridism/

And do you mean a tutorial with nodes and network examples showing techniques for laying out elements on a canvas? Or do you mean a tutorial that discusses issues around capturing and incorporating images from virtual worlds? Or about the metaverse and getting Nodebox code or output on the blockchain?

In any event, the short answer is No. I know of no such tutorials and would be surprised if any exist. But that doesn't mean we couldn't make one. Maybe you could start a separate thread about this and see if anyone else shares your interest.

Hehe no i meant the piece of Procedural Disarray in the Exhibit called Gridism.
    Also a fan of Seohyo.
Maybe would be a nice idea to add some more tutorials in the documentation to show whats possible. i honestly had to search the #nodebox instagram hashtag to find some artists and find some inspiration what is possible with the software.
maybe deconstructing some artworks like in the exhibit to teach the basic concepts / approach behind and give this a section or tutorial series?

Ah. Yes, that is a great piece, isn't it? Maybe I could coax Freny (procedural_disarray) into joining this thread.

I agree, it is devilishly hard even finding fellow Nodebox artists. And I think it would be a GREAT idea to see some artists deconstructing their work and sharing techniques.

Of course we already have this channel on the forum for exactly that purpose, but hardly anybody (other than me) ever uses it.

I wonder if we could get more traction in some other more flexible, more modern platform like Discord or even just YouTube. The problem is that it's a fair amount of work to create a tutorial and to herd artist cats into churning them out.

Are there any volunteers out there to create a new space for Nodebox artists and start a salon or lecture series or a podcast or something?

Failing that, maybe lurkers here could simply start some new threads by simply referencing a particular piece of art and asking the artist some specific question about it. Right here in the forum!

    Any takers?

I'm still here! Great exhibition! I hadn't seen a 3D NFT gallery like that yet, though I knew they existed. Thanks for sharing!

    Edit:
Posted early, before reading everything! First, when I started using Nodebox, I put together some tutorials that may or may not be of some interest.

Intro to Nodebox FUI with Nodebox

After that, I left Nodebox for a bit as we mainly make After Effects/C4D tutorials but I've jumped back in because I really like Nodebox and you can make a lot of cool stuff without much of a learning curve. And you can push it farther by making your own nodes (which I'm about to make a separate post about). I still mainly use Nodebox to make assets for other work, but I think I might make more tutorials on it from time to time because I think it could help artists in the space I work within. I think I might make one related to the current product I'm putting together.

As for the NFT stuff, again really cool! We've been trying to get into some of the more exclusive marketplaces since they seem to have more signal than noise. But we haven't really gotten to apply to too many of them. We were thinking of joining HeN and just getting going on minting work, but now that it's gone, we might just go straight to opensea. I don't know that any of it would fit with your gallery though since we don't exclusively use Nodebox, although I've done similar work to Seohyo in After Effects

Anyway, I'm so happy to see John here all throughout 2021 proving to me that Nodebox isn't dead, so I'm here to extend that same courtesy. I'm often lurking, but I'm here!

    Dear Joe,

Thanks for breaking your lurker silence and for your kind words. I am pleased that you enjoyed the 3D Cyber NodeBox Artist Exhibition. Thanks also for retweeting my notice on Twitter. Nodebox - and Nodebox artists - need all the support they can get.

I saw your original Nodebox tutorial on YouTube and am excited to hear you plan to make more. Feel free to post links in the Show Your Work thread on the forum. Maybe we can increase your audience even as you increase ours!

I am truly grateful to see both of your posts today. The forum has been pretty quiet for the last few months and I was starting to wonder if it was time to turn off the lights. The forum software does not provide like buttons or any simple way for people to say thanks other than making comments. And I do not have access to any visitor logs. So I have NO IDEA whether ANYONE reads my posts unless they surface and make an actual comment.

So far you and Franklin are the only ones who reacted to our NodeBox Exhibition. If anyone else is reading this, please pop up and at least say hi.

    The more the merrier!

    You're welcome, John!

Nodebox has its quirks for sure, but it's such an excellent piece of software and so easy to get into that I think people in my industry would benefit from figuring it out. We're hoping to do a large tutorial series tying in with the product that we're currently building so hopefully we can get some eyes on this community!

I would love to see Nodebox gain some broad appeal so I'm going to do my part to make that happen

Hey, please don't close the forum. I always come back to learn from some posted projects and use the knowledge for mine. Just don't post much but maybe I should post more of my projects and ask more direct questions.

As Joe stated Nodebox was for me an easy start to get results I can then quickly edit in Aftereffects/Photoshop.
For example doing these loops for our podcast series
    https://www.instagram.com/p/CWdegeZMlud/
Or title cards for our Newsletter.

Always learning something new for the next animation/picture set.

Started also dabbling a bit with processing but was just too slow with getting where i wanted but learning a bit on the side.

Regarding NFTs I really recommend doing it on Tezos. It's really maturing especially after HEN got closed. A lot mirrors popped up but people use a lot Objkt.com now.
After FXHash opened (Artblocks for Tezos) a month ago also a lot more ETH collectors and whales are coming to tezos and collecting both. Especially Cozomo is discovering his fav newcomers on Tezos.

Check out Galaxys tweet (top 5 Artblocks collector) about Tezos/Hen/FXHash:
    https://twitter.com/galaxyRTK/status/1470765184612544513?s=20

And then check the salesbot of FXHash.
    https://twitter.com/FxhashSalesBot

You can do special collections on Objkt. They are refining the platform every day.
Also a new one called Versum coming soon which everyone is looking forward to.
Been collecting since August on HEN and things now really heating up.
For visibility just connect with the very welcoming community on twitter.

    Joe, Franklin,

Thank you very much for responding. As long as even a few diehards like you guys continue to post on the forum, I will stick around. I just wish there were more of you.

You are both doing interesting work. And yes, I do encourage you to post more often. Everyone benefits both from shared work and from questions. At the very least you can keep me company.

Franklin, as per your NFT comments: I agree. Even before FXHash showed up, the most interesting art was appearing on Tezos. And FXHash is the coolest kid on the block at the moment. Our own FlorisDeJonge posts his SVGs on Tezos - you can see them in the NodeBox Artists exhibit on Cyber.

My own NFTs are still exclusively on Foundation, mostly because I had an opportunity to get in there and because I like their community and their UI. But until the crazy gas prices come down, Ethereum-based marketplaces are at a disadvantage for both artists and collectors. The Tezos blockchain is still evolving, has rough edges, and may be riskier, but if you're just getting started it's one of the cheapest and most vibrant options. I may try minting there myself if things do not improve on Foundation.

Thanks also for your excellent links. Richard Kim's summary was one of the best I've seen on this topic. I am now following him and will be reading more of his Twitter essays.

Thanks again and please keep posting!

    John

Thanks all for continuing this topic. Also thanks for mentioning me John. Since hicetnunc.xyz has closed down, I’ve been on hicetnunc.art. But so far it’s been less lively for me. FXHash seems really cool, contains great work and is especially suitable for generative art, but unfortunately not compatible with the Nodebox workflow. My choice for using Tezos and HEN was based on the article on generativehut. I haven’t checked out the possibilities of objkt.com yet, but might do based on the recommendation here. Especially minting multiple iterations of the same design in bulk would be great. Would a collection provide that opportunity?
