Cartan Node Library 2.2

Attached is the latest update to my Node Library. Version 2.2 now contains 84 nodes!

I have added TEN new nodes:

  • Arc_measure. Returns the number of degrees between start and end angles (clockwise or counterclockwise). This can be confusing to calculate. Handy for using with the arc node.
  • Canvas. Returns a white rectangle the width and height of the current canvas as defined in Document Properties. REQUIRES CANVAS.PY (included).
  • Convert_base. Converts a value from one base to another. Handles bases between 2 and 36. REQUIRES CONVERT_BASE.PY (included)
  • Easing. Applies one of ten easing functions to change values over time. Useful for animations and gradients. See
  • Intrsct_circle. Finds intersections between a line and an ellipse.
  • Mask. Returns segments of a background path occluded or not occluded by a foreground shape. Plotter friendly. See
  • Push_Pull. Moves a subset of a path's control points to alter its shape. See
  • Rearrange. Move a list of objects to a list of new positions over time. Handy for animating multiple objects at once.
  • Seg_display. Displays numbers and hex values as a classic 7-segment display. Options allow many different styles and colors.
  • Zoom. Smoothly zoom and pan into or out of content.

I also made some improvements to existing nodes:

  • Contours. No longer requires custom Python code. I was also able to remove the requirement for custom code from the fragments and intersect nodes. See
  • Fragments. Now simpler and easier to use. You no longer need to supply a boundary. You can input a list of overlapping shapes without having to group them first. The result automatically drops fragments representing the entire group and/or boundary. Can be used with hollow shapes like Venn diagram rings or with solid shapes to create meta-balls.
  • Fade. Now works properly with transparent shapes.
  • Arrow. Added internal setting making it easier to change the arrows center of rotation.
  • Minor edits to comments on some nodes.

As before, the NodeBox network contains demos for each node. I also added an outline view of the poster so that the library will open quickly; render the adjacent Combine node to see the full poster with drawings for each node.

All these nodes are free for use without restrictions. Please play with these and let me know if you experience any issues or have suggestions for additional nodes.

    Thanks for your nice lib.
    i'm exploring nodebox and needed a starter pack to study it a bit.)

    do you know a way to export a nodebox graph to interactive web ?

    and a way to convert a path with a stroke and transparent fill to a list of filled blocks?

    Sorry for the delay. I just now found this old note of yours in the NodeBox forum spam folder. I have no idea why it wound up there. My apologies.

    If you are still interested I would be happy to help with both your questions, but am afraid I don't understand either one. Could you please go into a little more detail?
