Image Import for NB3
Hello :
Recently discovered NodeBox and finding it very useful. I work in video compositing / motion graphics, highly interested to learn if importing images remains a planned feature? A thread (link below) from 2012 indicated image support was planned for 2013, but now it's 2014, so...?

Thanks!

Hi Nathan,
The short answer is that we probably won't support it in the near future. NodeBox 3 is and will remain a vector-only program for the foreseeable future.
However, we are working on a new version of NodeBox that will run online, called NodeBox Live. It is currently in private beta, but we're adding image support there.
Best,
F

Would love to have image support but can understand from a development perspective this probably complicates things quite a bit.
Still, the node-based / visual workflow (to me at least) seems superior to pure coding for building intelligently sophisticated interrelationships for generative design, if NodeBox could handle everything Processing is capable of I would probably use it exclusively.
Anyways I signed up for NodeBox Live, looking forward to what comes of that endeavor, thanks for the response.

Nathan Stueve check this

kind of image import, rastered to vectors... probably not what you need, but nonetheless worth checking.

Hi Rodolfo,
That might work, but converting images to vectors is not the most efficient way to deal with images. Native image support is something that we're planning for NodeBox Live, but not for NodeBox 3.

Some interestingly stylized results in that thread, pretty cool. Even though NB(3) doesn't do bitmaps it still looks useful for producing generative / animated transparency masks and color channel data, well worth adding to the toolkit for sure.
Thanks for the tip!

it does get tricky with more detail... there should be a way to implement more memory on the windows version, it would help to work with larger images (or finer detailed ones).
though, with this you can print really big vector images (size wise) a bit like offset printing, or Impressionist like Signac :)
