Google AI now understands Nodebox

Last year I tested Google's Gemini AI by asking it what Nodebox is. It muffed the answer, confusing it with other tech terms containing the word "Node" and hallucinating details.

I tried it again tonight and was impressed by the answer. I even asked several increasingly arcane follow-up questions and received remarkable answers: not only accurate but richly detailed and deeply insightful.

You can see a transcript of my interactions here:

My followup questions were:

  • Does Nodebox allow recursion?
  • What is the Cartan Node Library?
  • How can I use the Cartan Node Library to create seamless animation loops using two-dimensional time?

I am impressed.

    Hi John,

Thanks for sharing this. It indeed seems to 'know' the software, the website and the forum. I have more or less noticed the same. I was still developing some scripts for custom nodes, but recently I found the results from Gemini more usable than Claude's (which also has a limit of use, which hampers the iterative development). Since, I have improved the Voronoi-node, I also have an Intersect-node, and have a quite good Offset-node (and some Image-filter nodes).

    Floris,

Interesting! All three of those nodes sound tasty, especially offset (which I have sometimes attempted in Nodebox with little success). I would love to see demos of these whenever you feel ready to publish.
