Strange. I tried recreating your network based on that screenshot and it worked fine for me. Of course I can't see the settings in your nodes.

Could you please zip the NDBX file and attach it to a reply on this thread so that I can test it myself?

Also, what operating system are you running under?

Sorry you are having this problem.

Are you still there?

Even if you found a solution to this issue, I would appreciate you sharing your demo file to see if I can recreate the issue. It may be a bug with the copy node and if so it would be helpful to gather more data about that.

Thanks,

I just found some notes from you in the spam folder and restored them. This happens sometimes. I checked the spam folder before sending my previous note and they weren't there then.

That tender address you apparently sent to does not work. And the above restored notes do not contain any file attachment or operating system info. So no, I have not yet received any of that from you.

The easiest way to send to me is to simply hit the comment button on this thread, type or paste your OS info, then press the "Choose File" button next to "Attach File" and attach the zipped demo .ndbx file.

If you insist on emailing, you can send to my personal email which is john at cartania.com.

I look forward to receiving that file. Thanks for you patience!

Ok. Now I know the best way to connect with the support team - just write here. But also, it s great, that some emails have not dissapeared into oblivion.

So here is:
1.system information:
windows 10
2004
19041.867
language - russian
2. video:

About a demo file - I m a bit confused. I dont understand what exatly you ask me to send. Cause sometimes it works and some times not.

mashatag:support.nodebox.net,2012-11-01:Comment/490798962021-03-16T19:23:10Z2021-03-16T19:23:10ZCant use Rotate node without an error

Hi Masha,

Thank you for making that video. It's nice to hear your voice.

This is very strange. As you say, it's unlikely I will be able to replicate the error, but it's still worth a try. There might be a clue in there somewhere.

So just reply and attach the ndbx files you showed me in the video. You will need to zip them before attaching because the forum software often doesn't like ndbx file attachments - unless they are zipped.

It's VERY strange that you can temporarily fix the problem by opening a new file. Have you tried simply exiting NodeBox and re-opening the file? Also, it wasn't clear to me from the video what causes the error to return.

Also, what version of NodeBox are you running? And what version of Java (it says in the About Application menu item)?

Thanks in advance for your patience. These intermittent bugs are hard to track down, especially from a distance.

John

johntag:support.nodebox.net,2012-11-01:Comment/490798962021-03-17T02:01:46Z2021-03-17T02:01:46ZCant use Rotate node without an error

Masha,

Still haven't heard back from you yet and would still like to examine one of your ndbx files.

But meanwhile, I found another case in the forum which sounds very similar to yours:

http://support.nodebox.net/discussions/nodebox-2-3/6155-cannot-crea...

In this case, the user simply reinstalled NodeBox and the problem went away. Worth a try.

John

johntag:support.nodebox.net,2012-11-01:Comment/490798962021-03-18T22:26:42Z2021-03-18T22:26:43ZCant use Rotate node without an error

John, see files in attachment.

I ve already reinstalled the program a month ago. I downloaded Nodebox 3 from this site. Java - ver 8 281.

mashatag:support.nodebox.net,2012-11-01:Comment/490798962021-03-18T23:35:27Z2021-03-18T23:43:28ZCant use Rotate node without an error

Hi Masha,

I was not able to open the file you sent. It said it was corrupted or "files not supported". I have opened other .rar files before with no difficulty. Perhaps you could try again using some other compression utility (e.g zip); maybe it got corrupted in transit.

Another alternative is open the .ndbx file in a text editor, copy the whole thing, and simply paste it into a reply to this thread as text. I can then reverse the process.

I assume when you say you downloaded NodeBox a month ago, you downloaded 3.0.52 - yes? Another thing you could try is deleting that and downloading the previous version (3.0.51) to see if that solves your problem.

I initially thought your Java version was outdated since I am using Java 14.01 (on a Mac), but after additional research I see that 8.281 does seem to be the latest version for Windows. Editing this to remove my previous comment.

I really hope you can overcome this!

Pyfave, THANK YOU! It was good of you to jump in and help by converting Misha's file. It worked, and I was able to test and examine the two files Misha sent me. I have one other request of you (see below).

Misha, as I expected both of the files you sent look completely normal to me. I was unable to replicate the bug you showed me in your video. I tried all the nodes and everything worked as expected for me. Your networks are very simple with no settings that look problematic. I also looked inside the ndbx files and saw nothing unusual there.

Of course I am on a Mac and do not currently have access to a PC so there may still be a bug on the Windows side I am not able to see. Pyfave, I believe you are on a PC. Could you please open Misha's two files and see if you experience any errors? Try rendering various nodes and hitting play to see if the animations trigger any problems.

If no other users can replicate your problem, there is probably something in your environment that is triggering it. Some users running under non-English languages have reported problems, especially if they have special unicode characters in their file paths. But we have a number of Russian Nodebox users and no one else has reported anything like this.

The fact that you can temporarily solve the problem by simply opening a new file suggests this may be some kind of memory issue, like a memory leak or something affected by low level system activities like memory garbage collection. On the other hand, this seems to be a constant error for you that happens as soon as you open your NodeBox file, even after a system reboot - is that right? Strange.

Bugs like this can be devilishly hard to track down. My usual technique is to try all sorts of things to see if new symptoms emerge. Do you experience this problem with EVERY NodeBox app you create? Does it only happen with certain nodes or after you've created a new node, or after you've drawn your first link? When the problem goes away after opening a new file, what causes the problem to return?

Have you been using NodeBox for long? If so, was it working for you under previous versions? Try this: delete Nodebox 3.0.52 and install the previous version 3.0.51. See if your Nodebox files run OK under that verision. You can download previous versions here:

https://github.com/nodebox/nodebox/releases/tag/v3.0.51

If there are any other NodeBox Windows users out there reading this, please download the zip files Pyfave attached above and see if you can replicate this issue, or report any similar issues you have experienced.

I am really sorry you are having so much trouble.

Hi John, I ve installed 3.0.51 and everything works) thats good news.
I suppose that the reason is files, that were created on the mac and were opened on windows by me. Mostly I get an error when I click on mac-file-nodes (also I cant see the visual part) or try to create something in.

If I catch a new error, I ll write you again here) Thank you, John.

masha
