There was some concern about whether NodeBox would run under Apple's latest Mac OS, Catalina. Catalina does not support 32 bit apps, so many older apps will not work with it. Catalina came out last year, but I delayed upgrading until today.

The good news is that NodeBox 3 is a 64 bit app and, as far as I can tell, works fine under Catalina.

So far I've encountered only one minor issue. An obscure font I was using in one network disappeared. The fix is to reinstall it, or just switch to a different font. The vast majority of my fonts came through unscathed, but if you use obscure fonts in your NodeBox networks you might want to double check to make sure they are still installed.

If anyone else finds any issues, please post them on this thread.

Thanks,

Since writing that post I discovered that Catalina interferes with the ability to export movies in NodeBox 3. You can get around that by using the Export Range feature.

Some tips:

External tools may substitute a black background if none is provided. To create a white or neutral background in NodeBox, colorize a rectangle sized to the dimensions of your canvas and use a combine node to place it behind your content.

In the Export Range dialog be sure to set format to PNG

Create a folder to hold the individual frames

In Quicktime Player choose Open Image Sequence, select your folder, and click the Choose media button

If you want to match normal NodeBox output, choose a frame rate of 25 Quicktime produces a .mov file. If you want an MP4 you'll need a third party file converter. I found one called Smart Converter that lets me simply drag and drop.

The NodeBox team is working on a fix for this. If you care about animation, please see this post: http://support.nodebox.net/discussions/general-discussion/15028-req...
